Dragonfly Theatre Company
Dragonfly Theatre Company was originally founded in November 2020 by Jean Gottlieb
as a virtual outlet during the pandemic, producing new plays on zoom.
From 2023-2026, Dragonfly Theatre Company proudly hosted Subtext Studio Theatre Company, which was created when Omar Fernandez and Jean Gottlieb combined forces to produce new plays by diverse playwrights, plays that center the voices of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities and peoples. After three successful seasons of developing and producing exceptional new plays, Fernandez stepped down as Artistic Director and
Dragonfly Theatre resumed operations.
Dragonfly Theatre Company is currently a women-led, nonprofit theater dedicated to
developing and producing bold, socially relevant new plays
by, for, and about women (in all their glorious forms).
Centering the voices and experiences of mature artists, we create opportunities for stories
too often overlooked and perspectives too rarely represented on stage.
We seek to spark conversation, illuminate contemporary issues,
and foster connection, empathy, and community.
Dragonfly Theatre Company’s programming focuses on development, readings
and productions of new plays and a yearly New Play Festival.
